Another four COVID-19 cases have been confirmed amid an outbreak at Village on the St. Clair retirement home in Sarnia, bringing the total to 27.
The retirement home went into outbreak Dec. 30 and, on Wednesday, Lambton public health reported 21 residents and 6 staff now infected with the pandemic disease.
The caseload was also up at Twin Lakes Terrace nursing home in Sarnia, where another three residents had tested positive as of Wednesday. The outbreak there, which began Jan. 8, has so far seen 17 cases – 15 residents and two staff.
Fairwinds Lodge retirement home in Sarnia was the only other active institutional outbreak with cases among residents. Five residents and two staff have tested positive since the outbreak there began Jan. 4.
Sixteen of Sarnia-Lambton’s 28 deaths from COVID-19 were part of outbreaks at retirement and long-term care homes last spring.
Trillium Villa had four positive cases among staff as of Wednesday, and the remaining six long-term care and retirement home outbreaks had one or two staff cases each.
