Two more Maple Manor residents – an 82-year-old man and a 96-year-old man – have died during the outbreak that has ravaged the Tillsonburg nursing home, bringing the total of COVID-related deaths there to 13.
The hard-hit long-term care home now has 80 resident and 48 staff cases since the outbreak was declared on Dec. 12.
PeopleCare Tavistock also continued to be in outbreak with 40 resident and 33 staff cases. That long-term care home has reported seven deaths since their outbreak began Dec. 16.
The health unit for Oxford and Elgin counties also reported 40 new infections Wednesday, as well as 41 recoveries, dropping the number of active cases in the region to 362.
There have been 1,865 cumulative confirmed cases in the Southwestern public health region since the pandemic was declared. Of those, 1,466 have been resolved while 37 people have died. There have been 21 COVID-related deaths in the region since Jan. 1, highlighting the growing impact of the pandemic’s second wave.
